Guess the Wordle with Excel Solver

Amid the plenty of solutions and techniques that are coming for the newly viral word-puzzle game Wordle. I have also tried to make an excel-based solution for the puzzle. Because, being an excel enthusiast, I believe that Excel provides more flexibility and customization power than other analytical and problem-solving tools.

This solver will surely help the players to easily and quickly reach out to the correct word.

Solution Methodology:

The solution of the Wordle quiz may depend on different strategies.

a) Correct Position: If any correct position of a letter is known, it will help in narrowing down the list of possible words. At first, the solution strategy looks only for the known valid letters that appear at the correct position (green boxes).

b) Valid Letters: Once correct positions have been taken care of, the solution strategy looks for all possible words that contain the valid letters (yellow boxes) appearing at any place.

Additionally, the strategy excludes the possible words that contain the "Valid Letters" at the invalid positions.

c) Invalid letters: This strategy excludes all the ‘Invalid Letters’ (grey boxes) from the list of possible words. The same letter sometimes may appear differently. For some moves, it may appear as a valid letter with the correct position. In other moves, the same letter may appear as an invalid letter. In such cases, the solver will exclude all words that contain the letter in the wrong position.

List of Possible Words

After applying all three filters, the solver produces a list of possible words that helps the players guess the correct word. As the game progresses, more clues are available, the list of possible words gets refreshed and condensed after each move.

Suggested Word

After each move, the solver suggests a word that has the maximum count of the letters that have not yet been excluded.
